A meme that is derailing transition to renewable energy.

Alex Lightman Said:
One pernicious meme that is derailing the essential and overdue transition to renewable energy is the notion that driving an electric car doesn't matter because the electricity might come from a coal fired plant. That's like saying, from 1976 to 2011, that there's no reason to buy a personal computer because you don't have iCloud.

Once you get an electric car, one part of a system is in place, and then you become part of a movement to seek cleaner utility power and local solar/wind charging. You don't have to have the entire system (what Geoffrey Moore called the "whole product") transitioned to by the entire world in a day. You do what's possible as a component, and encourage others to do the same, and seek out Makers who can help you be cleaner, greener, and more self-sufficient all the time. There are plenty of people who charge their electric cars from their own solar cells on their own home.

The world's largest solar thermal power plant is now online in California and can provide enough power for 140,000 homes.
